Turkish parliament head attends international meeting in Madrid

Mustafa Sentop in Spanish capital to attend Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly

Turkish parliament speaker Mustafa Sentop attended on Friday the opening ceremony of the 143rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Madrid, Spain.

Sentop, who holds the term presidency of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Member States and Asian Parliamentary Assembly will also attend the opening reception.

King of Spain Felipe VI gave a speech at the opening of the General Assembly, which had high-level participation from more than 170 member parliaments.

In an interview to Spanish daily El Mundo, Sentop said relations between Turkey and Spain have entered a path that turns into a versatile, developing and comprehensive partnership.

He also talked about the issues in Eastern Mediterranean and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on Turkey.

Recalling a recent high-level meeting between Turkish and Spanish officials in the capital Ankara on Nov. 17, Sentop said “signing of bilateral agreements in many fields is an indication that we have reached an important stage in our relations.”

“The effects of our strengthening economic relations will not only be limited to the field of the economy but will have impact on every field,” he added.
