Spanish police said on Friday that they have arrested an Irish man with alleged ties to the notorious Kinahan gang.

Spain's Civil Guard said they arrested him on the island of Lanzarote, where he was running a boat rental business alongside his wife.

He was picked up on a UK-issued arrest warrant while at a bar.

According to the UK's National Crime Agency, the man is Gary Vickery, 38, who has previously pled guilty to playing a leading role in conspiring to import illegal drugs and money laundering.

Spanish police say that his boss is Thomas Kavanagh, a senior member of the Kinahan gang, with whom he faces accusations of coordinating large-scale drug shipments worth over £23 million ($31.7 million).

The Kinahan criminal organization has been part of a bitter feud with the Hutch gang that left at least 18 people murdered, mostly on the streets of Dublin, since September 2015.

Irish authorities say the gang operates globally, smuggling guns and drugs and using "execution-style" murders to protect its interests in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America.

Last July, Vickery failed to show up to court on the day he was supposed to be remanded in custody, and instead testified remotely from Spain, saying he could not get a PCR test in time.

In August, Gerry “The Monk” Hutch, leader of the rival Hutch faction, was also arrested in Spain.
