Spain reiterates its intention to recognize Palestinian statehood

Spanish premier recently visited Norway, Ireland and Slovenia to push for Palestine’s recognition

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reiterated his country's intention to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state in separate phone calls Monday with the Palestinian and Egyptian presidents and Jordanian king.

Sanchez spoke with Mahmoud Abbas, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and King Abdullah II on the situation in the Middle East, the Spanish news agency EFE reported, citing official sources.

According to the report, a decision to recognize Palestinian statehood could come at any time.

Previously, Spain, Ireland, Malta and Slovenia announced that they are ready to recognize the state of Palestine.

Recently, Sanchez visited Norway, Ireland and Slovenia to push for the recognition of Palestine as a nation state.
