MOSCOW

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu on Friday charged the responsible military chiefs to provide an uninterrupted supply of ammunition to the armed forces engaged in the "special military operation" in Ukraine.

Shoygu personally inspected the shipments meant for the battle zone, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

His comments came hours after Evgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner private military company, announced his group could leave the frontline city of Bakhmut after May 10 due to a shortage of ammunition supplies.

Russian forces have been trying for months to capture Bakhmut, a transport and logistics hub in Ukraine's Donetsk region, which is part of the largely Russian-speaking industrialized Donbas region.
