Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at closing

BIST 100 loses around 7.2 points as of Tuesday's closing

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index was down by 0.66% to 1,089.60 points at the close on Tuesday. 

After starting the day at 1,101.56 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 7.21 points from Monday's close of 1,096.81 points. 

During the day, the index hovered between 1,085.23 and 1,102.80 points. 

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 805.7 billion Turkish liras ($108.4 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion). 

On the second transaction day of the week, 24 stocks on the index rose, 71 fell, and five were flat compared to Monday. 

The highest trading volumes were posted by chemical producer Petkim, real estate investment Emlak GYO, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Real estate investment firm Halk GYO was the best performer, with its shares up 5.85%, while stocks of conglomerate GSD Holding dropped the most, losing 3.91%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,920 by market close, down from $1,928.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets. 

The price of Brent crude oil was around $39.60 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Tuesday.
