Fresh back from New York, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and canceled appearances at two upcoming events.

On Twitter, the Spanish leader said he would continue working “with extreme caution.”

Sanchez returned to Spain on Friday after an active week in New York, where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.

On Wednesday, he met with Bill and Melinda Gates and hosted events with global leaders, including the premier of Barbados and the president of Chile.

Later that night, Sanchez attended a dinner reception hosted by US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden at the American Museum of Natural History. This summer, both Bidens suffered “rebound” COVID cases.

In attendance at the dinner were dozens of global leaders and their spouses, including Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and first lady Emine Erdogan, who both had mild COVID cases this February.
