The death toll from the novel coronavirus rose in Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman, health officials announced on Sunday.

In Tunisia, one more person died, bringing the death toll to 48 along with 1,048 infections and 914 recoveries.

The North African state started easing restrictions earlier this month after six weeks of lockdown.

The UAE, meanwhile, confirmed one more virus-related death, taking the national tally to 245.

It reported 781 new virus cases, bringing the total to 29,485. As many as 15,056 patients have recovered thus far.

Restrictions in the Gulf country are being lifted gradually, with shopping malls and cafes being allowed to partially operate.

Last week, however, it extended the nationwide curfew, during which nonessential movement is forbidden, by two hours. It is now in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

In Oman, a further 513 infections were diagnosed, bringing the total to 7,770 besides 1,933 recoveries and 36 deaths.

The sultanate has allowed a limited number of commercial businesses to reopen.
