Turkish Deputy PM asks UK support against terrorism

Atalay: 'We discussed cooperation in the field of combating terrorism with British officials and asked for more sensibility'.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay stated on Thursday that they asked Britain for more sensibility in the cooperation field of combating terrorism.

Atalay who is in British capital London, holding several talks, replied to the questions of Anadolu Agency.

Attending the annual summit of Open Government Partnership (OGP) earlier in the day, Atalay assessed the conference and said topics of transparency in the state-citizen relations, more connections of government officials with citizens, ability of the government's answering, information openness for the citizens were discussed.

Turkish deputy premier also noted that during his London visit, he came together at a very beneficial bilateral meeting with the British Home Secretary Theresa May. Mainly covering the security issues, Atalay gave the details of what he discussed with May.

"Cooperation in the field of combating terrorism was our main topic. There are some formations in the UK which financially help terrorist organisations. They also intervene in citizens as non-governmental organization who are in touch with terrorist organizations. Without severe demands, the British government holds good works about this topic. We thanked them and asked for more sensibility in this field," he expressed.

Stating that Turkey has good relations with Britain in the field of security, Atalay added, "We mainly forwarded our sensibility about the works of some formations related to terrorist organisations. Becaue there are some unconfirmed information being heard that our citizens are being pressurized or receiving threats. These are very important. We made a request of dealing with these more with good communications and receiving information."

Informing Secretary May about the ongoing peace process in Turkey, Atalay said he recalled the problems that Britain had with IRA and that Britain was a good example in the field of finding solutions.(AA)
